Lucas Malbrun

Biography

Lucas Malbrun is a visual artist and an animation film director.

Lucas Malbrun

Malbrun’s graduation film ‘Quand Le Fleuve Se Tait’ (When the River is Still) won the animated short film prize at the Toronto Film Week 2016. Since then, he has been directing music videos and animated short films while simultaneously evolving his painting and drawing style. Working alongside Marie Larrivé he directed the clip ‘Tropicool’ for Gablé, which was screened at the Centre Pompidou, awarding them the Vimeo staff pick. He then works on the fifth season of ‘En Sortant De L'école’ (Leaving School) with La Clé Des Champs which is broadcasted on French television.

In 2018 Malbrun embarks on a writing residency at L'abbaye De Fontevraud. In 2019, the music video ‘SABA’ co-directed with Marie Larrivé, obtains a VIMEO STAFF PICK and the duo claims the silver award in the New Talent category at the Annecy festival.

Using popular materials such as felt tip pen, Malbrun’s awakens visions of an often-banal everyday life, with a sense of chaotic energy and passion, transporting the viewer into his curated universe.

In his series on football, Malbrun’s captures his subjects, both players and spectators, in a range of emotions, playing with perspective and scale to reveal a sense of absurdity and humour.

The range and intensity of colours charge his works with an electric feeling, the mass hysteria before the explosion.
